Vicks Dayquil Recalled Because Of Packaging
* Featured News * Health * United States Vicks Dayquil Recalled Because Of Packaging The U. S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled 700,000-units of Vicks Dayquil cold medicine Friday on discovering the packaging was not child-proof. According to the product safety group, Vicks Dayquil Cold & Flu 24-Count Bonus Pack Liquicaps sold between September 2008 and December 2009 with UPC No. 3 23900 01087 1 is affected by the recall. Consumers can easily identify the product as it has a yellow flag in the top-right corner reading: Bonus 20% More, as Proctor and Gamble Co. (P&G) offers bonus packs during the cold season. Not only is the packaging not child-resistant, it is also missing the statement: ‘This package for households without young children,’ with the warning that it should be kept beyond the reach of young children, as any child swallowing a number of the pills could suffer ‘serious health problems or death’. DayQuil capsules are not indicated for children younger than 12. The Vicks formula contains four drug ingredients: acetaminophen, a pain reliever and fever reducer; dextromethorphan, a cough supressant; doxylamine, an antihistamine and pseudoephrine, a decongestant. Crystal Harrell, a spokeswoman for P&G said the issue was discovered during a routine review of company packaging, adding the problem is being corrected, with new boxes beginning to be shipped within the week.
